Actinic Keratosis, causes, symptoms, reasons, diagnosis and treatments

What is Actinic Keratosis?

These are precancerous lesions that develop on sun-damaged skin over a long period. AKs are normally pink, brown, or white and often have a scaly feel. If detected early, AKs can be easily treated and prevented from developing into skin cancer. This emphasizes the importance of scheduling a full-body skin exam. There are multiple actinic keratosis natural treatments as well.

What are the Symptoms for Actinic Keratosis?

Common symptoms of Actinic Keratosis are rough, dry, or scaly skin patches. They are normally smaller than 1 inch in size. They are flat with a slightly raised top layer of skin. These patches can be pink, red, or brown.

Patches of Actinic Keratosis can be on the neck, forearms, and hands; it is more likely to be affected by sun-exposed areas.

How to diagnose Actinic Keratosis?

Skin care experts can examine Actinic keratosis by simply looking at your skin. They also performed a skin biopsy for more clarity. To perform a skin biopsy, experts will first numb the skin through injection and then take out a small sample of your skin to get it checked in the lab.

Actinic keratosis can be removed by itself, but sometimes treatment is needed. It is mandatory to remove actinic keratoses because they can develop skin cancer. The expected treatments are given below:

Medicines: There are medicated creams to remove actinic keratoses, such as imiquimod or fluorouracil, that skin care experts prescribe. These medicines may cause an instant reaction of burning or scaling.

Scraping (curettage): Scraping is also known as curettage. Healthcare providers perform electrosurgery. They cut and destroy the affected tissue by using pencil-shaped instruments. The affected tissue gets destroyed with an electric current. He also used local anesthesia before the process.

Freezing (cryotherapy): Cryotherapy is a well-known way of skin treatment. Because it takes less time, skincare experts will freeze the Actinic keratoses using liquid nitrogen. Then, he will apply the substance to the affected area of your skin. This substance causes blistering. Blistering may cause scars on your skin or other infections too.

Laser therapy: An ablative laser device is used for this procedure to destroy the patch. This allows new skin to develop in that specific area.  This may affect the color of the affected skin.

Photodynamic therapy: Photodynamic therapy includes using a special light that will destroy the actinic keratosis. Before this, a skin specialist will apply a light-sensitive chemical solution to your skin area. There are sudden reactions to this process, such as swelling or burning.

Angela is beyond helpful and definitely goes above and beyond with her customer service. I contacted her about a skin tag removal and she ended up also educating me on dpn. I ended up getting both procedures done and I couldn't be happier. Her followup check ups have been very reassuring and helpful.
